BLEACH BLONDES & BAR STOOLS by Jeff Callaway

BLEACH BLONDES AND BARSTOOLS

darlin’
this achy-breaky
heart is sinkin’
as i’m kickin’ back with a couple a six packs
i mean i’m drinkin’
as i’m singin’
an old Johnny Cash song
i’m thankin’ ‘bout all them horrible thangs
that i done wrong
and how i wish a good woman would come along
when these lonesome hot summer nights seem so long
i’m so lonely when i load another bowl and hit the bong
and then i turn the TV on
and then i’m gone
and it was them bleach blondes
and barstools that got me
here
drownin’ in m’sorrows
and poundin’ back beers
bareback bar-bride’s maids
bound to m’bartab
all along
i’m thankin’ ‘bout all them bleach blondes and barstools
that i’ve known
and that i’ve been on
THIS IS JUST ANOTHER POOR OLD OUTLAW’S SAD SONG
all about a country mad drunken fool
who was always in the company
of bleach blondes
and barstools
or girls with margaritas in open-toed shoes
i love you country girls in your cowgirl boots
and i love them punk rocker girls too
in their combat boots
i reckon’ i do
plus them hip-hop honeys
i’ve known a few
i reckon’ i love me a girl who
can shoot
a mean game of pool
i damn sure do
but really for this lonely Texas Outlaw Poet
any seniorita’ll do
but i guess if i had to choose
as a golden rule
it would be
a bleach blonde
on
an old barstool
