THE INVINCIBLES by Jeff Callaway

THE INVINCIBLES
by Jeff Callaway

way back then
when we were hell-bent
on disaster and sin
we picked out splinters heaven sent
we were late for a soirée
smacking on pate
with the hair on our heads unkempt
and so we swallowed the blues
with our bad attitudes
we searched for something new
through a million streets we cruised
and then we threw
all of our fears into the fire flame blue
dancing on the edge of life's knife in death's tomb
in search of a way to get higher we zoomed
as the acid rock boomed
on the radio
the vibe in the street was so hip
the acid rock was on the radio
while we got high and had our kicks
but the chicks they all knew it too
that we were pagan

through and through
and we knew
what it was we wanted to do
was to embrace all our passions
and darkest desires
to leave rubber on the road
from our smoking tires
to feed love's bonfire if not funeral pyre
play light my fire
to laugh and love much higher

deep inside
our hearts and our heads burned that fire
which sleeps fast to be
put to bed
to live a full life before you are dead
for your days in this world
will soon come to pass
so take a deep breath
before it's your last
